It’s no surprise that I talk a lot about running around here. Sometimes just in passing, sometimes with a little bit of complaining, but most of the time in terms of helping you make your running better, improve your times, or just gain more enjoyment and value from this demanding, yet rewarding form of physical activity. Through all of this though, I’ve talked very little about specific start to finish training. I’ve touched on parts of it – like speed training and hill workouts – and I’ve talked about tips and advice, fuelling and motivation, but training from start to finish, is something I haven’t focused on a whole lot. But to go from doing no running to race ready, and then race successfully is a large task, and one that I’ve come to appreciate more and more as I’ve been coaching beginners from the start of their running journeys. I think part of it is that I decided to run races after having run for a while and didn’t really need to start from the very bottom up. Regardless, between coaching and my own running, racing and all the successes and failures along the way, I’ve learned a few things about running from the beginning. And of course, I just want to share it all with you! Starting next week, I’m going to be doing a 4 part series, Running: From Start to Finish, where we’ll talk about starting out as a runner and building up your base training, all the way through race training, race day and post race. If you want to be sure to get the post right to your inbox, sign up over in the right column for the blog list, and I’ll let you know when each part of the series is published. To set you up though, and get you excited, today I’m sharing all my favourite running resources. Over the next few weeks, you can refer to these as we go through the four part series and get you race ready, or just all geared up to take on your running goals.
